CSS Exam Timeline (Month-by-Month Guide)

The CSS exam journey is long and competitive, usually taking 12–14 months from advertisement to the final merit list. Here’s the complete step-by-step timeline:


Stage 1: Advertisement & Registration

  • Timeframe: September / October (previous year)

  • What Happens:

    • FPSC announces CSS exam schedule through newspapers and its website.

    • Candidates can apply online and submit challan form + required documents.

    • FPSC sets a cut-off date for age and qualification (usually 31st December).

  • Duration: ~1 month


Stage 2: Application Scrutiny & Roll No Slips

  • Timeframe: November – January

  • What Happens:

    • FPSC scrutinizes applications.

    • Eligible candidates receive Roll No. Slips (admission certificates) online, usually 2–3 weeks before the written exam.

  • Duration: ~2 months


Stage 3: Written Examination

  • Timeframe: February (every year)

  • What Happens:

    • Written exam is conducted in major cities of Pakistan.

    • Duration: ~12 days (candidates attempt 12 papers).

    • Compulsory Subjects = 600 marks

    • Optional Subjects = 600 marks

  • Duration: 2 weeks of exam


Stage 4: Written Result Announcement

Stage 6: Psychological Assessment
